Estonian national player Dener Jaanimaa, acquired in a blitz signing this past Wednesday, has already been cleared by the league to take part in the match on Saturday against Frisch Auf Göppingen (7 pm, Rothenbach Hall Kassel). The league offices confirmed this to the MT on Thursday. The backcourt player, transferred from THW Kiel, will wear his accustomed number 24 on his shirt with the MT as well. – Tickets to the match can be purchased at the arena box office, open from 5:30 pm.
The 26 year old will play on the right backcourt position, closing the gap behind Michael Müller. The move was necessitated when another new signee to the MT, Gabor Langhans, could not practice. It remains unclear when Langhans might be able to return.
"I've just had my second training session with the MT. There's no way to become a smooth running part of the machine that fast. But I'm certain that we'll get it ironed out in a few weeks. The lads here are very nice and have been very welcoming. I'm happy to be here and may even be able to get my first court time with the MT against Göppingen", Deener Jaanimaa said during a mini-photoshoot on Friday at Rothenbach Hall.
Worth mentioning: he's hardly a stranger to the MT's home court. As a player at THW Kiel, HSV Hamburg and ThSV Eisenach he's travelled to Kassel many times. Most recently on 22 May of this year, when the MT celebrated a sensational 30-29 victory over the THW, with Jaanimaa notching a goal for the guests. On 2 December 2015 he shot 3 goals against the MT during a 31-24 victory by the HSV, and on 28 March 2014 he was good for five for ThSV Eisennach, who nevertheless fell to the North Hesse hosts in the end 23-29.
