MT Bundesliga pro team introduced at Schlossgarten

The holidays have just ended, meaning it's time for the Bundesliga handball pros at MT Melsungen to get back to work. This past Friday, the picturesque Schlossgarten in Melsungen served as the backdrop for a presentation of the squad for the 2016/17 season. Before the pros were introduced at 7 pm, the MT's Junior teams first took the stage at 5:45 pm. The audience could enjoy the relaxed beer garden atmosphere while learning about the team's new recruits and listening to lively interviews. Tickets and handballs were also raffled off.

A well-earned holiday after a draining but highly successful season came to an end this week for the handball talent at Bundesliga side MT Melsungen. The first mandatory event came on Wednesday and Thursday: a photo shoot behind closed doors at Kassel's Rothenbach Hall. Two days of disciplined modelling and posing in front of the camera — all under the artificial lights, of course. It proved quite a trial for players more accustomed to an athletic setting than a fashion one.

Which explains why the pros will be thrilled with the second portion of the programme on Friday, when they arrive at 7 pm — hopefully under fair skies — at the beer garden to meet and greet with fans. Because the team introduction at the Melsunger Schlossgarten is always a light-hearted affair, with the coach among others all too happy to contribute to the fine mood. With help from Press Spokesman Bernd Kaiser, Michael Roth will present his players in his customary informative and entertaining manner — with a clever jest or two mixed in for good measure. One special focus of course is on the new faces in the MT team, in this case Gabor Langhans and Arjan Haenen. Supervisors Board Chairwoman Barbara Braun-Lüdicke and Club President Axel Geerken will also offer a preview of the season and the club's goals for both the Bundesliga and the European Handball Cup.

Starting at 5:45 pm, the doors will open at the handball division of the Melsunger Turngemeinde, offering sports fans a comprehensive peek behind the scenes. Director Bernd Prauss is presenting the youth teams, from the minis to the successful Bundesliga Junior A and MT II, the club's Oberligateam. It will provide a good illustration of just how broad the handball division has become, especially in light of the progress made by the teams below the pro squad. Claus Schiffner will use his role as Chairman to provide insight into the club's youth development programme.

The event in the Schlossgarten has traditionally been supported by the Kreissparkasse Schwalm-Eder, one of the longest-serving sponsors of Melsungen handball. The financial institution will also be providing 50 handballs to be raffled off to the guests at the end of the event. With a bit of luck, fans can also win tickets to the Bundesliga team's home matches. Naturally the players will also be available for discussions, autographs and photo requests. And while we're on autographs: the perfect place to gather them is on the poster featuring the new 2016/17 team photo — taken just two days ealier — and the season's fixtures. Season tickets will also be available for pre-order on site.
