DHB Cup: Boxing Pro Firat Aslan draws Minden against MT

The quarter-final matchups in the DHB Cup have been decided: On Wednesday evening, immediately before the throw-off for the PIXUM Super Cup in Stuttgart, German boxing champ Firat Aslan draw the pairs for the coming round. For MT Melsungen he draw freshly promoted Bundesliga side GWD Minden. The team from eastern Westphalia will play host for the match on 26 October.

"I can't complain. If you look at the other potential matchups, it could have been a lot worse. Winning in Minden is no easy feat, but it's doable. What's good is that we've already done some film work on the opponent and that it's a relatively short trip", commented MT Coach Michael Roth on the tournament draw.

During the first round Final Four matchup last weekend, the MT prevailed against two 2nd Bundesliga sides, SG Leutershausen and TV Neuhausen, while Minden bested TV Korschenbroich and neighbouring club TuS N-Lübbecke.

Just three days after the Cup match in Minden, the two Bundesliga competitors will meet again, this time in Kassel.

The MT and GWD have met 16 times in their shared Bundesliga history. The North Hesse team has claimed 8 victories and the squad from East Westphalia 5; another 3 matches finished tied.

The two have not met in a Cup duel since 1995/96. The handballers from MT, at that time still a 2nd Bundesliga club, nevertheless slew the Bundesliga team from Minden 34-33 in Melsunger Stadtsporthalle. They then went on to win against Rheinhausen, punching a ticket to the Final Four in Hamburg for the first time in club history.
